Mei's Snowball Offensive
One snowball, one shot, one kill. Control the reload zones.
Mei's Snowball Offensive is a festive 5v5 elimination brawl where all players control Mei armed with a special snowball blaster that kills in a single hit. It sounds simple — but the reload mechanic transforms this mode into a tense game of resource control and mind games. You only hold one snowball at a time, and glowing snow piles scattered around the map are the only way to reload. A player without a snowball is completely defenseless. The mode rewards game sense, positional awareness, and knowing when to bait, when to reload, and when to strike. Introduced during the first Winter Wonderland event in December 2016, it remains one of the most uniquely strategic seasonal modes in the game.
Objective
Eliminate the entire enemy team to win a round. No respawns within a round. First team to win 3 rounds wins the match.
Key Mechanics
Snowball Blaster
Mei's primary fire fires a single snowball that deals an instant one-shot kill on any hit. Snowballs travel on a projectile arc — you must aim slightly ahead of moving targets and account for drop at range.
Snow Piles (Reload Zones)
Glowing snow piles scattered across the map are the only reload source. Hold right-click while aimed at a snow pile to reload. Only one snowball can be held at a time. Controlling these zones is the primary strategic objective in the mode.
Snowflake Indicator
A snowflake icon above a player's head indicates they have a loaded snowball. No icon means they are empty and completely vulnerable. Reading this at a glance — for both your allies and enemies — is a critical skill.
Ice Block (Cryo-Freeze)
Can be used to tank an incoming snowball (you're invulnerable while frozen). The key mind-game: bait enemies into shooting, then cancel Ice Block early and fire back while they're empty and reloading.
Ice Wall
Can be used to block enemies from reaching a snow pile (denying their reload), create cover while you reload, or split the enemy team in a teamfight. Ice Wall placement is a significant skill expression in competitive play.
Modified Ultimate (Flurry)
Replaces Blizzard with a continuous rapid-fire stream of snowballs during its duration — no reload needed. Charges over multiple rounds and carries between rounds. A well-timed Flurry can single-handedly win or lose a round.
Tips & Strategy
- 1Never approach a snow pile while an enemy with a loaded snowball has line of sight — they'll one-shot you as you try to reload
- 2Use Ice Block not just defensively but as a bait tool — bait the shot, break out early, punish the empty reload
- 3Map control is about snow piles, not spawn points — denying enemy access to reload zones is more powerful than hunting for kills
- 4Track snowflake indicators constantly: knowing which enemies are loaded vs. empty completely changes your aggression level
- 5Save your Ultimate (Flurry) for clutch multi-kill opportunities or when you're in a 1vX situation with no snowball
- 6Account for snowball arc — at medium range, aim slightly above your target's head to land the shot

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you reload in Mei's Snowball Offensive?
You reload by standing near a glowing snow pile and holding right-click (secondary fire/aim). The reload takes about 1 second. Snow piles are shared — if you and an enemy both approach the same pile, whoever reloads first has an enormous advantage.
What is the Flurry ultimate in Mei's Snowball Offensive?
The Flurry replaces Mei's standard Blizzard ultimate. It fires a continuous burst of rapid snowballs for several seconds with no reload required. Each snowball still kills in one hit. The ultimate charge carries between rounds, so banking it across multiple rounds for a decisive moment is a viable strategy.
Is Ice Block useful in Mei's Snowball Offensive?
Ice Block is one of the most powerful tools in this mode. It makes you completely invulnerable to an enemy's shot — baiting them into firing and then cancelling early to punish the reload is a core technique. It also buys time for teammates to trade for you or for you to find a better position.
