Overwatch Clash

Teams fight for control of 5 sequential objectives. Win by capturing the enemy's final point or holding your own.

How to Win

Capture all five sequential points, ending at the enemy's final home point. The team that captures more points wins when time expires.

History

Clash was introduced in Overwatch 2 Season 12 (2024) with maps Hanaoka and Runasapi. It was developed as a mode that creates a clear front line that advances and retreats based on team performance, similar to mechanics found in other competitive FPS titles.

Key Mechanics

  • Five points are arranged symmetrically: home > mid > center > mid > home
  • Teams fight for the center point first
  • Capturing a point advances the active contest zone one step toward the enemy base
  • Spawn locations shift as your team captures points further into enemy territory
  • Teams can rally and retake lost points, reversing momentum
  • The match ends when one team reaches and captures the enemy final home point

Attacking Tips

  • Win the center point fight decisively — early control creates a snowball effect
  • After capturing a point, immediately regroup and transition to the next point
  • Do not overextend after capturing — holding the newly acquired point is more important than chasing
  • Read the enemy composition and save counters for high-stakes point fights

Defending Tips

  • Concede ground strategically if you can build ultimate advantage for a counter-push
  • Use the spawns to your advantage — being closer to your own home point gives you time to react
  • Counter-push after your team stalls the enemy — momentum switches quickly in Clash
  • Area denial abilities (Zarya bubble, Sigma flux, Mei wall) are excellent for holding a single point

Recommended Heroes

Tank

Sigma, Zarya, Orisa

Point-control tanks that dominate a small zone and protect teammates through sustained fights excel in Clash's sequential point structure

Damage

Mei, Junkrat, Cassidy

Area-control and high burst damage heroes that lock down capture points are extremely effective

Support

Ana, Zenyatta, Baptiste

High-impact support ultimates (Nano Boost, Transcendence, Amplification Matrix) can swing sequential point fights

Clash — Frequently Asked Questions

How many points are in Clash?

Each Clash map has 5 capture points arranged symmetrically: two home points (one per team), two mid points, and one central point. Teams begin fighting for the center point (C) and progress outward toward the enemy base.

Can you lose ground in Clash?

Yes. If the enemy team retakes a point, the contested zone shifts back toward your base. Teams can completely reverse momentum by winning key teamfights and working their way back through the chain.

Is Clash replacing another competitive mode?

Clash was added to the competitive rotation as a brand new addition in Season 12. It joined Escort, Hybrid, Control, Push, and Flashpoint in the ranked map pool without replacing any existing mode.

What is the best strategy for winning Clash?

Win the center point fight cleanly using your ultimates if needed — the team that takes the center point first has a huge positional and psychological advantage. After capturing each point, immediately group and push the next one rather than waiting.

Do spawn locations change in Clash?

Yes — as you capture points further into enemy territory, your spawn point shifts closer to the active contest zone. This means teams on a winning streak have progressively shorter respawn walks, amplifying momentum.

What heroes counter the sequential point structure of Clash?

Heroes with strong area denial — Mei, Zarya, Sigma, and Junkrat — are exceptional at holding individual Clash points because the fights are localized to specific small zones. Wide AoE damage and shields naturally control the point geometry.

Can a team come back from losing 3 points in Clash?

Yes, Clash allows full momentum swings. A team down 3-1 can win the final home point of the leading team if they string together consecutive fight wins. The ability to retake points ensures matches rarely feel definitively over until the final home point falls.

Which maps are available for Clash in competitive?

Clash launched with Hanaoka (Japan) and Runasapi (Peru) as its inaugural maps. Both were designed specifically for Clash with the 5-point symmetrical layout in mind.
