Lucioball

Overwatch meets soccer — Lucio's 3v3 arena sport.

Lucioball is Overwatch's high-energy take on soccer, introduced with the very first Summer Games event in August 2016. Two teams of three players each control modified versions of Lucio inside a giant arena and compete to knock a huge ball into the opposing team's goal. Forget healing or damage — this is pure sport. All standard Lucio abilities are replaced with sports-focused mechanics: a charged Soundwave shot for powerful kicks, and a boosted Ultimate that turns Lucio into a one-man goal-scoring machine. Whether you're a casual fan looking for a break from the usual game or a die-hard competitor chasing Copa Lucioball rankings, this mode delivers something completely unlike anything else in Overwatch.

Objective

Score more goals than the opposing team within the time limit. The first team to score 5 more goals than the opponent wins by mercy rule. In the event of a tie at full time, the match goes to sudden-death overtime — next goal wins.

Key Mechanics

Soundwave (Primary Fire)

Lucio's primary fire fires a powerful sonic projectile that launches the ball forward with significant force. Charged shots hit harder and travel farther — critical for long-range shots on goal.

Melee

Light melee attack for close-range ball contact. Useful for deflecting or nudging the ball when an enemy is challenging you for possession.

Ultimate — Speed Boost

Lucio's Ultimate grants a huge speed boost and drastically reduces Soundwave's cooldown for its duration. Use it to make rapid multiple shots, close distance on a loose ball, or make an acrobatic goalie save.

Ultimate Charge

The Ultimate charges by making saves (blocking shots headed toward your goal) or by taking shots on the enemy goal. Aggressive offensive play and clutch saves are equally rewarded.

Copa Lucioball

A competitive ranked variant with a separate rating from standard competitive play. Matches last 6 minutes (versus 4 in standard). Rewards competitive points and an exclusive spray at the end of the season.

Lucioball Remix

An alternate variant featuring two balls simultaneously. First to 10 goals wins. Golden "bonus balls" occasionally appear worth 3 points each. No instant replays — faster and more chaotic than standard play.

Tips & Strategy

  • 1Wall-ride along the arena edges to gain speed and reach the ball faster than opponents running on the ground
  • 2Save your Ultimate for goal-scoring opportunities or critical defensive saves — do not waste it on ball possession
  • 3During standard 1-ball Lucioball, treat each possession like a hockey power play — protect the ball and set up your shot
  • 4Watch the ball's trajectory arc — it follows physics-based gravity, so you need to aim slightly above the goal for long-distance shots
  • 5In Remix, the golden bonus ball always spawns in the center of the arena — prioritize it when the score is close
  • 6Position one player as a dedicated goalkeeper during opponent rushes; do not all chase the ball at once
