Junkenstein's Revenge
Defend the castle gates from waves of undead Omnic horrors.
Junkenstein's Revenge is a 4-player co-op wave defense mode set in a gothic, nightmarish version of Eichenwalde castle (called Adlersbrunn). Players must protect the castle's ancient gate from relentless waves of Zomnics — zombie-like Omnic enemies — and culminate in showdowns against iconic Overwatch bosses reimagined as Halloween monsters. Dr. Junkenstein himself orchestrates the assault, joined by his Monster, The Reaper, The Witch, and The Summoner. With four difficulty tiers, challenge modifiers, and an endless mode, Junkenstein's Revenge has become one of the most beloved seasonal traditions since its introduction in October 2016.
Objective
Protect the castle gate from being destroyed by enemy waves. The mission ends when all four bosses — Dr. Junkenstein, Junkenstein's Monster, The Reaper, and The Witch of the Wilds — have been defeated after The Witch resurrects them for a final stand.
Key Mechanics
Gate HP
The castle gate has a fixed HP bar. Enemies deal damage by exploding near it or attacking it directly. If gate HP reaches zero, the game ends immediately — protecting the gate is the top priority at all times.
Zomnics
Basic cannon-fodder enemies that march directly to the gate and deal contact damage on arrival. They are fragile but come in large numbers — AoE heroes like Torbjörn's turret and Soldier: 76 excel at clearing them.
Zombardiers
Heavy stationary units that fire Zarya-like energy projectiles at heroes (60 damage per shot, 2m blast radius). They do not target the gate directly but keep pressure on players while Zomnics advance.
Shock-Tires
Modified Junkrat Rip-Tires that target only the castle gate. Erratic movement makes them difficult to hit — up to 2 can be active simultaneously. They must be destroyed before reaching the gate or they deal massive damage.
Boss Encounters
Bosses have enormous health pools and use ultimate abilities. Dr. Junkenstein (Junkrat), Junkenstein's Monster (Roadhog), The Reaper, and The Witch of the Wilds (Mercy). The Witch doesn't attack — she resurrects all four bosses simultaneously. The mission only ends once all four are eliminated after her resurrection.
Difficulty Tiers
Four difficulties: Normal, Hard, Expert, and Legendary. Legendary significantly increases enemy HP, speed, and frequency. Challenge modifiers add special rules: Vengeful Ghost, Frenzied Stampede, Volatile Zomnics (enemies explode near players), and Mystery Swap (hero randomized periodically).
Tips & Strategy
- 1Torbjörn's turret is invaluable for passively shredding Zomnic waves — place it with sight lines on the gate approach path
- 2Cassidy + Ana Nano Boost can nearly one-shot most bosses — coordinate this combo on Dr. Junkenstein or The Reaper for fast boss clears
- 3Prioritize Shock-Tires over everything else the moment they spawn — a missed Shock-Tire can instantly end the run
- 4On Legendary difficulty, don't spread the team: group up for heals and focus fire on priority targets
- 5Widowmaker can safely deal consistent boss damage from the back without being caught in Zomnic waves
- 6Watch the gate HP bar constantly — even a brief lapse in attention during The Witch's resurrection can cost you the game

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best team composition for Junkenstein's Revenge?
A classic Legendary-viable composition: Torbjörn (wave control), Cassidy (boss killer), Widowmaker (backline damage), and Ana (healing + Nano Boost for boss burst). Torbjörn's turret handles Zomnics automatically, freeing teammates to focus on Shock-Tires and bosses.
How do you beat The Witch in Junkenstein's Revenge?
The Witch doesn't attack players — she resurrects all four bosses simultaneously instead. When she appears, stop attacking all other enemies and focus exclusively on The Witch first. After she goes down, the resurrected bosses become the final encounter.
Is there an endless mode for Junkenstein's Revenge?
Yes — Junkenstein Endless is a 12-wave continuous mode. Surviving all 12 waves is considered a win, but additional bonus waves continue indefinitely beyond wave 12 for players who want to push their limits.
