About Gothenburg
Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden and, in Overwatch lore, home to Torbjörn Lindström and Brigitte Lindholm. The city houses the Ironclad Guild — an engineering workshop where Torbjörn, one of Overwatch's greatest weapons designers, works alongside Bastion researching and developing weapon systems.
When Null Sector launches its global invasion in Season 6, Reinhardt and Brigitte travel to Gothenburg to recruit Torbjörn for the fight. What they find on arrival is a city already under siege — a Null Sector Titan has been deployed specifically to stop them. The "Ironclad" story mission tasks players with surviving this assault and linking up with Torbjörn before the city falls.
The map has a remarkable development history: originally revealed at BlizzCon 2019 as a traditional 2-capture-point Assault map, it spent years in development limbo after the Assault game mode was retired from standard play. Rather than shelving it entirely, Blizzard reworked the setting into the Invasion PvE format — giving Gothenburg one of the longest journeys from announcement to release of any map in the game.
Ironclad — Mission Overview
Ironclad is a cooperative PvE story mission supporting 1–4 players. Fight through Null Sector forces across Gothenburg's streets and industrial districts, culminating in a battle against the Null Sector Titan threatening the city.
Mission Objective
Reinhardt and Brigitte travel to Gothenburg to recruit Torbjörn. Upon arrival, a Null Sector Titan has deployed to stop them. Survive the assault and link up with Torbjörn.

The Ironclad Guild — where Torbjörn works with Bastion researching weapon systems — serves as a key story and gameplay location during the mission.
Null Sector Titan
A massive Null Sector Titan is the defining threat of this mission. It deploys specifically to neutralize the heroes before they can recruit Torbjörn.
Hero Selection
As a PvE story mission, specific hero combinations affect mission dialogue and interactions. Reinhardt, Brigitte, and Torbjörn are central to the story.
Lore Connection
Gothenburg is deeply personal territory for both Torbjörn and Brigitte. The Ironclad Guild is Torbjörn's life work — a facility where his engineering expertise has shaped weapons used by heroes across the globe. The neighborhood bears the Lindholm family name, cementing the emotional stakes when Null Sector brings the fight to their doorstep.
The Null Sector Titan deployed to Gothenburg is a deliberate show of force by the invaders — targeting not just the city, but the people capable of arming the resistance. Stopping the Titan isn't just about survival; it's about protecting the knowledge and tools needed to fight back globally.
