Map Overview
Watchpoint: Gibraltar is Overwatch's original escort map, set at a coastal rocket launch facility overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The payload must travel through the facility's outer walkway, through the main hangar building, and across the rocket launch area to the final delivery point.
Gibraltar is the longest escort map in the game and rewards teams with strong map awareness and ability to maintain sustained pushes.
The hangar interior creates a significant mid-section transition, and the launch pad area features unique sightlines and flanking opportunities in the finale.
Attack Strategy
Contest the outer walkway's right-side high ground immediately — this is the strongest early attack position.
Use Sigma's barrier to push the payload toward the hangar while your flanker takes the side ladder to threaten defenders from behind.
Inside the hangar, push through the center rather than the side passages — your barrier covers more defenders simultaneously.
The launch pad area has multiple routes — send players through the upper walkway while others push the main road.
Coordinate Nano Boost with the Graviton Surge at the launch pad for the final push.
Defense Strategy
Defenders should hold at the outer walkway wall rather than the payload's starting area — this position has better angles and cover.
Inside the hangar, defenders should hold the elevated central platform, which commands sightlines over all three entry points.
For the launch pad, split defenders between the upper walkway and the ground level to prevent coordinated attacks from a single direction.
Save a Graviton Surge or Earthshatter for the launch pad finale where the delivery area creates a tight zone.
Key Positions & High Ground
Outer Walkway High Ground: The right side elevated position at the map's start controls the entire first section.
Hangar Central Platform: The raised area in the middle of the hangar gives commanding angles over all entrances.
Launch Pad Upper Walkway: Running above the launch area, this position lets defenders (or attackers) fire down safely.
Cliff Edge: The outer left path beyond the hangar offers a flanking route that bypasses the main launch pad approach.
Chokepoints to Control
The hangar entrance is the first major chokepoint — defenders hold the doorway and prevent entry effectively.
Use the side passages or a disruptive Ball roll to break the hangar entrance before the main team pushes through.
The launch pad outer ring is the final major chokepoint — defenders on the upper walkway have extreme angle advantage.
Flush them out with Gravitic Flux or Dragonblade before attempting a ground push.
Ultimate Usage Tips
Graviton Surge into Dragonstrike at the hangar entrance clears the entire defensive setup.
Earthshatter through the launch pad's upper walkway catches defenders who think they are safe on high ground.
On defence, Blizzard at the hangar entrance completely stops time-pressure pushes.
Self-Destruct on the launch pad bounces off the rocket structure for unexpected angles.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Teams push into the hangar one at a time and die in the chokepoint repeatedly.
Gibraltar's hangar must be entered simultaneously by at least four players with barrier cover.
Defenders walk out onto the outer walkway instead of holding the hangar entrance, losing the positional advantage.
Attackers push the launch pad without taking the upper walkway first, suffering extreme damage from above throughout the entire final push.
