Roadhog's Catch-A-Mari

Kill Confirmed — but with Pachimari toys.

Roadhog's Catch-A-Mari (also called simply Catch-A-Mari or PachiMarchi mode) was a limited 3v3 game mode introduced during the PachiMarchi 2023 event. It takes direct inspiration from the Kill Confirmed mode popularized by Call of Duty: eliminating enemies scores nothing on its own — you must also collect the Pachimari plush toy the enemy drops to actually claim the point. The catch: your enemy team can deny your score by grabbing the same Pachimari first. First team to collect 20 Pachimaris wins. It turned a straightforward team deathmatch into a layered tactical game of kill-denial, high-value baiting, and aggressive Pachimari contesting.

Objective

Eliminate enemy players and collect the Pachimari plush they drop to score points. Enemies can grab the Pachimari first to deny your score. First team to collect 20 Pachimaris wins.

Key Mechanics

Pachimari Drop

When a player is eliminated, a Pachimari plush drops at their exact death location. The eliminating team must physically walk to and pick up the dropped Pachimari to score the point. Simply getting the kill awards nothing.

Score Denial

Either team can pick up any Pachimari, at any time. Enemies who die and leave a Pachimari on the ground can be 'denied' if the eliminating team can't reach it before the enemy team does — turning corpse locations into secondary battlegrounds.

First to 20

The first team to collect 20 Pachimari toys wins the match. With 3v3 and relatively fragile heroes, rounds can swing quickly based on a single sequence of contested pickups.

Hero Freedom

Unlike most special modes, Catch-A-Mari places no restrictions on hero selection. Any hero from the full roster is available, making team composition meaningful — dive heroes are natural fits for aggressive pickup plays.

Lore & Background

The PachiMarchi event celebrated Overwatch's beloved Pachimari plushie mascots — small squid-onion hybrid toys that appear in loot boxes, on maps, and in hero lore. The event offered 10 challenges rewarding up to 80,000 Battle Pass XP and the Epic Pachimari Roadhog skin for completing 6 of 10 challenges.

Tips & Strategy

  • 1Don't over-commit to securing a Pachimari if enemies are nearby — getting killed while picking it up gives them a two-point swing (your death drop + your failed pickup attempt)
  • 2High-mobility heroes (Tracer, Genji, Lucio) can contest Pachimari pickups much faster than stationary heroes
  • 3Killing someone in a dangerous position isn't always worth it — consider whether you can safely reach the Pachimari before engaging
  • 4Baiting enemies to chase a pickup and then eliminating them creates a double Pachimari opportunity
  • 5Track the score constantly — at 18-19 for either team, every Pachimari becomes critical and changes team behavior

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Catch-A-Mari scoring work?

Eliminating an enemy is only the first step. The eliminated player drops a Pachimari plush at their death location. Your team must physically pick up that Pachimari to score 1 point. Enemies can intercept and grab the Pachimari first to deny you the point. First team to 20 Pachimaris wins.

What event was Catch-A-Mari part of in Overwatch 2?

Catch-A-Mari was the limited game mode for the PachiMarchi 2023 event, which ran March 21 – April 4, 2023. The event celebrated Overwatch's Pachimari mascots with themed challenges, cosmetics, and the exclusive Epic Pachimari Roadhog skin.

What heroes work best in Catch-A-Mari?

High-mobility and dive heroes — Tracer, Genji, Lucio, Winston, Wrecking Ball — excel at rushing Pachimari pickups before the enemy team can contest them. Tracer in particular is ideal: blink to a fresh kill, grab the Pachimari, and blink out before enemies can punish you.
