7 heroes wield the power of the Greek gods in mythic FFA deathmatch.

Battle for Olympus Deathmatch was a limited free-for-all event mode released in January 2023. Seven Overwatch heroes were each granted mythological Greek god identities — and their Ultimate abilities were dramatically enhanced with divine powers lasting far longer and triggering unique bonus effects tied to their deity. Widowmaker became Medusa (enemies who look at her during Infra-Sight are instantly eliminated). Junker Queen became Zeus (Rampage calls lightning strikes on wounded enemies). The mode ran as standard FFA deathmatch — first to 20 kills wins — but in a divine arena that turned every ultimate into a spectacle. A global leaderboard tracked kills by each divine hero across all worldwide matches, and the winning deity was permanently commemorated with a statue on the Ilios Ruins map.

Key Mechanics

Divine Ultimates

Each hero's Ultimate lasts significantly longer than normal and triggers unique divine bonus effects. All heroes gain 200 bonus HP while their divine ultimate is active.

Widowmaker / Medusa

Infra-Sight causes any enemy who looks directly at Widowmaker to be instantly eliminated — turned to stone. Duration is extended dramatically.

Junker Queen / Zeus

Rampage lasts 25 seconds and calls lightning strikes on already-wounded enemies for bonus damage. Opponents who are damaged but not killed become lightning rod targets.

Pharah / Hades

Barrage duration is extended and gains underworld-themed VFX; the area of effect lingers slightly after the ability ends.

Lucio / Hermes

Sound Barrier now grants godlike speed and extended protection; Lucio glows with golden light and moves at exceptional velocity during the ultimate.

Global Leaderboard

Total kills accumulated by each divine hero (e.g., total Widowmaker kills across all worldwide matches) were tracked for the two-week event. The hero with the most global kills at the end had a permanent statue installed on the Ilios Ruins map.

Each of the 7 heroes was reimagined as a Greek deity with exclusive legendary skins: Medusa Widowmaker, Zeus Junker Queen, Hades Pharah, Hermes Lucio, Poseidon Ramattra, Minotaur Reinhardt, and Cyclops Roadhog. The global kill leaderboard became a competitive community event — players actively chose specific heroes to help their favorite deity 'win' and earn the Ilios statue.

Tips & Strategy

1Avoid line-of-sight with Widowmaker (Medusa) entirely during Infra-Sight — looking at her is an instant death sentence
2Reinhardt (Minotaur) plays extremely differently from standard Reinhardt — be aware that his shield is only useful as a defensive tool in FFA since no one is 'on your team'
3Lucio (Hermes) during Sound Barrier becomes one of the best escape tools in FFA — use it to run from disadvantageous multi-player situations
4Pharah (Hades) is strongest in the open arena sections of Ilios Ruins where targets can't break line of sight easily
5Track the scoreboard — if someone is at 17-18 kills, the entire lobby will shift focus to stopping them
6Ramattra (Poseidon) during Annihilation can control choke points and prevent others from scoring during the extended duration
