Map Overview
Ilios is a Greek island control map with three iconic sub-maps: Lighthouse, Ruins, and the famous Well.
Each sub-map rewards completely different strategies.
Lighthouse is an open elevated area perfect for snipers and long-range compositions.
Ruins features tight corridors around ancient columns that benefit close-range fighters.
Well is a tiny control zone encircling a bottomless pit — the most unique and volatile control point in the game, where environmental kills determine the outcome.
Teams must be willing to completely change composition between sub-maps.
Attack Strategy
On Lighthouse, take the elevated far platform immediately to contest the point from range.
On Ruins, use the columns for cover while pushing and avoid standing in the open.
On Well, position your tank to push enemies toward the pit while your supports stay back safely.
Coordinate Orisa or Roadhog abilities to shove enemies into the Well — a single environmental kill swings the fight completely.
On all sub-maps, contest at 50% rather than waiting for an ideal situation.
Defense Strategy
On Lighthouse, set up a Widowmaker or Ashe on the lighthouse structure itself for the map's best sniper position.
On Ruins, hold the highest column cluster to fire down on attackers.
On Well, position defenders to back attackers toward the pit edge — never stand near the edge yourself.
On all sub-maps, if you gain an early percentage lead, play safe and delay rather than committing to risky fights.
Key Positions & High Ground
Lighthouse Platform: The elevated platform in the centre of the Lighthouse sub-map provides dominant angles over the entire control area.
Ruins Column Cluster: The group of columns on the higher side of the Ruins point provides elevated cover for firing down safely.
Well Outer Ring: The stone pathway circling the Well allows teams to force fights near the environmental hazard without themselves being at risk.
Lighthouse Structure: The lighthouse building itself can be climbed by select heroes and provides the map's best long-range position.
Chokepoints to Control
The Lighthouse open area has no chokepoints per se, but the elevated platform creates a de facto high-ground control fight.
Teams holding the platform win fights consistently — never commit without contesting this position.
The Ruins column area creates sight blockers that both sides use for cover.
Well's outer ring is the entire map — the chokepoint is the pit edge itself, and every fight near it is high-stakes.
Ultimate Usage Tips
On Well, a Roadhog hook into the pit is an instant elimination that swings the point fight dramatically.
Orisa's Javelin Spin shoves multiple enemies into the Well simultaneously.
On Lighthouse, Dragonstrike along the approach to the platform clears defenders.
On Ruins, Graviton Surge into Dragonstrike in the column cluster is extremely powerful.
Kitsune Rush at Well wins any contested fight by speed advantage.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Standing near the Well edge yourself while fighting is the most common fatal mistake on Ilios — always be aware of your positioning relative to the pit.
Teams use the same composition across all three sub-maps and get destroyed when the sub-map changes — have a plan for each zone.
Defenders on Lighthouse stand in the open on the point instead of on the lighthouse structure, giving up the best defensive position available.
